Something For Everyone in Fall Book Line-up

Vacation is over, the kids are back to school, and life gets much busier! While you're waiting for the kids at soccer or dance, why not pick up a new book?

You finished the new Harry Potter book the very day you bought it, so you may be asking yourself "What do I read now?" This fall brings plenty of titles from a variety of authors. Though you're sure to find something that appeals to you in the New Releases section of your favorite bookstore, below are a few selections that might help you get a head start:

The Rest of Her Life by Laura Moriarty (Release date: August 7, 2007)

In her debut novel, The Center of Everything, Moriarty took readers through the trials and tribulations of adolescence. In The Rest of Her Life, she examines how complex mother-daughter relationships are further tested in a time of tragedy.

What-the-Dickens: The Story of a Rogue Tooth Fairy by Gregory Maguire (Release date: September 11, 2007)

On a dark and stormy night, 10-year-old Dinah is trapped with her two siblings and their cousin, Gage, who keeps them entertained with a most unusual tale about What-the-Dickens, an orphaned creature with a thirst for teeth. Along the way, he discovers a secret tribe of skibbereen (tooth fairies) to which he hopes to belong. The newest tale from the author of Wicked, Son of a Witch, and Mirror Mirror.

Playing for Pizza by John Grisham (Release date: September 24, 2007)

After the most embarrassing play of his career, AFC third-string quarterback Rick Dockery becomes an industry joke, but isn’t quite ready to kiss his career goodbye. He gets the opportunity of a lifetime (or so he thinks) to be a starting quarterback…for the Parma Panthers in Parma, Italy. Dockery doesn’t speak a word of Italian and has never even been to Europe. How will he adjust to the world of fine wine, beautiful women, small cars, and a completely different culture?

Bridge of Sighs by Richard Russo (Release date: September 25, 2007)

Empire Falls’ author is back with a new tale of small-town life. Bridge of Sighs tells the story of Louis Charles (“Lucy”) Lynch, a lifetime resident of upstate Thomaston, New York. He and his wife of 40 years, Sarah, are preparing for a trip to Italy to visit his lifelong friend, a world-renowned painter who has exiled himself from the familiar confines of his childhood home. Along the way, Lucy attempts to unravel some of the true mysteries of his life.

Breaker Boys: The NFL’s Greatest Team and the Stolen 1925 Championship by David Fleming (Release date: October 9, 2007)

Breaker Boys is the story of the real-life Pottsville Maroons, the professional football team from the coal regions of Pennsylvania who won the NFL championship (the equivalent of today’s Super Bowl) in 1925. Their trophy was later taken away from them in a controversial decision by the NFL. Fleming chronicles the players, coaches, and culture of the team that became the Boston Bulldogs in 1929.
